S’Interact Club of Borrego Springs
Student-Led Service with Global Impact
The S’Interact Club at Borrego Springs High School is more than a student group—it’s a movement. Sponsored by Rotary International and supported by Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs, the club empowers students to take action through service projects that make a difference locally and globally.
S’Interact is a joint club formed by the partnership between the Rotary Interact Club and Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs. Together, they support students in leading service projects that foster leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.
Who Can Join and When Do They Meet?
Any Borrego Springs High School student—boys and girls—can join. The club meets weekly at lunch and is currently planning a meet-and-greet event for new members for the next school year.
The club’s motto, “Service Above Self,” is put into action through fundraisers, volunteering at local events, and building awareness around global issues like education access and environmental sustainability.
Scholarships Available
Both Rotary of Borrego Springs and Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs offer multiple scholarships to graduating seniors at Borrego Springs High School. These scholarships recognize leadership, service, and commitment to making a positive impact.
Building Real-World Leadership
S’Interact members gain valuable experience in event planning, fundraising, public speaking, and global citizenship. Whether they are serving breakfast at the American Legion, organizing car washes, or helping with local service projects, students take on meaningful leadership roles that prepare them for the future.
International Focus
The club’s past signature initiative included a sanitation project in India, raising funds to help provide toilets in schools. While this project has concluded, the club is in the process of identifying new international initiatives for the coming year.
Mentorship from Local Leaders
The club benefits from the mentorship of local leaders including Sylvia Maas, a Soroptimist member and global advocate for education, and Corie Jaramillo, who works closely with students on all club activities. Their guidance helps inspire students to stay engaged, work hard, and understand the long-term value of service.
Why It Matters
In a rural desert community like Borrego Springs, S’Interact gives students the tools and confidence to lead. These young people are learning that leadership begins with service—showing their peers, their town, and the world that meaningful change starts with taking action.
